Inside the House

Heather felt like the interview with Dirk had raised more questions than it had given answers. The victim’s boyfriend of a year didn’t know any more about her job than the neighbor had. There seemed to be some confusion about Lorna Littles’s grandparents and their antiques. There also still seemed to be no obvious leads about who would want to hurt the sweet volunteer.

The investigators had discussed the state of the case while enjoying some more Banana Bread Donuts. The sweet taste of the donuts helped them from becoming frustrated by the case. The vehicular murder weapon had been submerged so much that the evidence there had been tarnished and diluted, and the one potential suspect they had now had an alibi.

“I really thought it might have been the boyfriend who did it,” said Amy. “They always make such good suspects.”

“I spoke with the front desk,” Ryan said, referring to a call he had just made. “They confirm that Dirk Ross didn’t check out until eleven. They’ll allow us to review their security footage of the hallways to further confirm his alibi. This establishment likes to cooperate in murder investigations.”

“I think it will check out,” said Heather. “But then we’ll need to find some other suspects in this case.”

“Right,” said Amy. “Lorna sounds perfect and like no one should want to kill her.”

“I think we’re going to have to find out more about the victim,” Heather said. “I think we need to do more than peer through her windows. We’re going to have to go inside.”
