Chapter Twenty-One
She Talks To Angels
Tony
To be woken early the next morning with a demand for entry from two police officers made my mood less than pleasant. They should have known better than to dare set foot on Carlotti property without an express invite. Needing some kind of back up, I went to find Santos. My ire was somewhat tempered by the sight of my best friend wrapped up with Eden in the guest room, sound asleep.
"What?" he mumbled quietly, letting on that he was more aware than I'd thought.
"We have a problem at the gate. A couple cops are insisting on speaking to Eden or getting a warrant to do so, and I'm not getting a call back from our contact there to find out why. I'm going to have to let them in. You know we can't risk the warrant."
"You fucking serious?" At my nod, Santos' expression went from disbelieving to livid. It matched my feelings exactly, but we were stuck, and he knew it. "Vinnie is on board with this?"
"He's being cautious, so he suggested we cooperate until we can find out what's happening." I wasn't any happier with my father, but again, we had the Family to protect. Though it didn't sit right, we had to do this.
"Motherfucker, I can't believe this shit. Eden," he gently called out, shaking the still sleeping woman in his arms. She complained and tried to snuggle in further. âGo ahead,â he sighed as he pulled away from her to sit up. âIâll get her up and be out in a minute.â With a nod and no small measure of guilt, I left the bedroom.

Eden came into the den in sweats and a hoodie, followed closely by Santos. The rest of us, including my father and the cops, were already in the room, waiting. Despite the dark circles under her forest eyes and the ratty mess sheâd twisted her hair up into, she was still as captivating as ever. If it hadnât been for the worry that had her hugging her arms to her chest, and our current company, Iâd have chanced saying something to her. Last night had been wild, and I wanted more. More crazy, more sex, more Eden. But this wasnât the time or place for it, so I bit my tongue and patted the seat next to me, placing her between my father and me.
She complied, but the set to her face let everyone know she was less than happy to be here. âIs there something I can help you with?â Her question was directed at Vinnie, and I had to smother a smile at her disregard of the bristling men in the room.
âWeâre the ones that requested your presence. You are the same Eden that goes by the stage name Angel, correct?â At her wary nod, the solidly built, light-haired officer stood from his seat, followed closely by his thinner and taller partner. âWe got a report from a Jasper Finelli that his wallet was taken last
