Birch made the call, finally.

The enemy was conducting psyops, toying with her and her fleet. It was annoying that it had taken this long to make that decision, but such was the problem of dealing with unprofiled enemies, she supposed. The empress knew her foes must have felt the same dealing with her, more than once.

The enemy convoy was slowing, apparently aiming for a nearby system. She was unsurprised. Her forces had listed it as a high likelihood of being the destination some time ago and made appropriate plans.

“Issue the order to the fleet,” she said finally. “Close on the enemy, block their escape, and engage with the full force of the Eighth.”

“Yes Commander!”

She smiled thinly at the eagerness she heard in her subordinate’s voice.

It was one that she felt echoed in her own blood.

Intelligence specialists or not, one did not achieve the rank she had in the Imperial forces without having a certain fondness for direct combat.

The Empire grew on the blood of its enemies and citizens.

It is time to grow the Empire once more.
