The terms sued for at the end of the war were not kind on Carthage, crippling the Mediterranean power so that it would never dominate in the region again. In one odd twist of fate, Fabius bequeathed his estates to Carthage under the terms. In a move reminiscent of Fabian wile, Hannibal had previously prohibited his troops from pillaging Fabius' properties in an attempt to make him look bad or suspicious to his men. In the end, this type of strategy had only worked for Rome, and the city state was once more the dominant force across the Mediterranean region.
