The Curiate

Things were a bit more open and democratic over at the Curiate. This assembly evolved over time during the Roman Kingdom and did not reach the apex of its power until the beginning of the Roman Republic. In these early years of Rome, the Curia stemmed from the various Roman families and were ethnic or genealogical in origin. This would evolve throughout the Roman Kingdom as we will discuss. Like the Senate, the Curiate Assembly served to create and pass laws and serve as an open forum for discussing public issues. The plebeians could take part in the Curiate, but voting was left to the Patriae.
