Chapter 18
Edâs heat radiated onto me as I lay with my head on his shoulder. The day had come and gone, and the sun was setting. We hadnât left the roomânot even for lunch. My stomach grumbled.
âHungry?â he said, turning to look at me.
âStarving.â
He kissed my cheek, then smiled at me warmly. âWanna go get some dinner?â
âMm-hmm.â
He pulled his arm out gently from under my head and rolled over to check his phone. âMeet at seven? I might have a shower and try and get some drone footage while the lightâs like this. Itâs gorgeous outside.â
I groaned, pulling the sheet up over my head. âHow do you even have the energy for that?â It was so nice having him here with me. Lying naked in bed with him all day, and fooling around, left me feeling exhausted, warm, satisfied, and a little sore. I felt complete, somehow. I didnât want him to goâdespite the fact I would see him in just over an hour. This felt like an embarrassing teenage crush.
Ed chuckled. âSo where do you wanna eat?â He patted his pockets. âUh. I totally forgot I lost my room key. I have the brochure in there. Um ⦠I think thereâs an Asian fusion place we havenât tried yetânot far from the tequila bar. You wanna check it out?â
The thought of sitting across from Ed for another meal, and hopefully spending another night with him, sent a little ripple of bliss through me. All the work I had to do? It could wait. I could deal with it all tomorrow. As for tonight, I just wanted to relax and hang out with Ed.
âSounds good. So long as you donât make me stop by the tequila place.â I made a face.
âNo way. Youâre way too much of a liability on the tequila.â He leaned down to kiss me, asked me for the hundredth time if I was all right, then left.
I lay in the dark, listening to the waves outside and the quiet murmur of people occasionally walking past. Then I grabbed my phone and opened WhatsApp.
Luisa: How did you go with the move? Get in ok?
April: You are a damn lifesaver, Lulu. Thank you so much. My stuff is everywhere, butâIâm in!!!!
Luisa: Woo hoo! I have a roommate!!!!!
She replied with a string of grinning and partying emojis.
Luisa: So how are you feeling?
April: Iâm alright. Just got to work. Vom.
Luisa: Is that a pregnancy vom or just an âIâm-at-workâ vom?
I still couldnât quite comprehend she was pregnant. That in nine monthsâ time, or whatever was left, my best friend would have a baby.
And they would both be living with me. It was hard to imagine. Where would the baby even sleep? Where would we fit everything baby-related that she would have to buy? I would have to get her a wardrobe or something for all the gear. It was going to be a tight squeeze, that was for sure.
April: The second one, thankfully. No sickness yet.
Luisa: Lucky!
April: So whatâs on for the day in Mexico?
I smiled.
