Chapter 36
Reticulan Journeyship
Idin led Julie and Sam from the hangar bay to a hallway that appeared to lead in several different directions inside the very large spaceship. Fortunately, the hallway was tall and wide enough for normal humans to walk through without bending over. The walls and floor were smooth, beige colored with no signs of illumination.
âWhere are you taking us, Idin?â Julie asked as they walked.
âI am taking you to your quarters where you can stay and rest for a few hours while we are here. You will find them satisfactory for human accommodations.â
Idin kept walking down the hallway. So far, there were no other Reticulans in sight. Sam was about to ask why when Idin turned right and opened a panel in the wall by pressing a pad beside the door.
âYou will stay in this area for the night while I meet with others in charge of this ship. Spare rooms are down the hall. Find any room with an open sign on the door. Refresh yourselves with food and drinks in the dining area. I will return at eight oâclock am in your time to introduce you to others of my race.â
With that said, Idin left the room. Julie looked around the area. There were tables and chairs for eating and a food area that looked like it contained snack items.
âI wasnât expecting this, Sam. It actually looks like the inside of one of our hotels. Why would this be here inside this spaceship?â
âI have no idea. Idin will have to explain all of this in the morning. Letâs find our rooms. I need to freshen up a little.â
Julie and Sam walked through another door and found rooms on both sides of the narrow hallway. Julie opened the first one with a small sign on the door that actually read âOpenâ in English. Sam took the second room. Inside they found a typical hotel-like room with a double bed, table, chair, clothes closet and bathroom. It didnât make sense to either of them. Why would the aliens have rooms like this on board their spaceship?
After freshening up a bit, Sam left his room and knocked on Julieâs door. When the door opened, Sam said, âAre you hungry? I am.â
Julie smiled and said, âI could use something to drink. Lead the way.â
Sam was about to open the door in the hallway that led to the dining area when they heard voicesâhuman voicesâspeaking on the other side. Sam quickly opened the door and saw two people, one male and one female, sitting at one of the tables. The turned around in surprise as Sam and Julie entered the room.
âWho are you?â the male asked standing up. He wore glasses on a thin face with dark hair, brown eyes and well-trimmed beard. He was shorter than Sam and looked European. His voice had an English accent.
âI was about to ask you the same. Iâm Sam and this is Julie. Weâre from the U.S.â
The manâs expression changed from a frown to a smile.
