SEOUL & BUSAN

Weirdly, I barely spent any time in Seoul until I became a blogger—even though my parents are South Korean immigrants and my ninety-year-old grandma lives a short distance away in Busan. I’m obsessed with Korea and think it’s so cool that I’ve been able to visit so many times for work; it’s one of my favorite places to go, and I never miss up an opportunity to see my grandma. I could be away for as little as six months, and everything will feel different the next time I go back: the culture, trends, technology—all of it. I never feel like I have a full grasp of the city, and I have yet to find myself bored in Seoul.

Busan is only an hour flight, but I prefer the three-hour trip on the KTX bullet train. They have snacks—so. many. snacks. (Not to mention free Wi-Fi!) Every half hour or so, someone pushes a drink and snack cart through the aisle to offer boiled eggs (a very typically Korean thing to eat), dehydrated sweet potato sticks (at least two bags for me, please), regular potato sticks, and—the pièce de résistance—kimbap, which are Korean-style veggie, seaweed, and rice rolls. But better than the snacks is who greets me upon arrival in Busan: my grandma.
