DANIEL AMARTEY SIGNS FOR CITY

It isn’t often I get excited about a new Leicester City signing but there is something intriguing about Daniel Amartey.

I have to confess, when I first was told of City’s interest in the Ghana international in the summer I replied, ‘Who?’

I don’t watch much Scandinavian football and Amartey had not yet hit the international stage.

But since City returned for Amartey, who only turned 21 last month, I have been trying to find out more about him, and I have liked what I have heard and seen.

YouTube clips can be misleading about a player’s ability as they generally don’t give you a true picture of their attributes, but if Amartey turns out to be as good as his clips suggest, City have signed themselves one hell of a prospect who ticks all the boxes of what I believe City look for in a player.

For a start he is young and will be able to develop within the City squad, growing as City hopefully grow into a Premier League force.

He is a great athlete too. Big, strong and fast, it is not hard to see why he is so versatile, being able to use those attributes at centre-back, right-back and centre midfield.

He is good in the air and also has one hell of a shot on him, judging by some of the goals he has scored.

Plus, at £5 million, his signature doesn’t break the bank and if he develops as expected he will command much more than that. £5 million is a lot of money in the real world but in the Premier League it is peanuts.

Of course, this is all ifs and buts, and we will only really know if City have unearthed another gem when we see Amartey in action over a number of games.
