The two detectives meandered through the lazy crowds. They turned aside to look at whatever was in a nearby booth whenever the ex-con turned their direction.

Henry Sheen looked haggard and on edge, as if he hadn’t slept in days. Diego and Farnsworth exchanged knowing looks… if they were able to follow the breadcrumbs that lead Sheen here, certainly Gage Houdek could do likewise. Especially since at least two of his targets would be under one roof… three if he caught Sheen here as well.

Farnsworth scanned the crowd nervously, not that he or anybody else outside of Bratva knew what Zmei looked like. He glanced past a cluster of cosplayers including John Wick, Agent47, and Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad; Farnsworth felt certain that a professional hit-man would seem obvious if he ever spotted him.

They closed in just as Sheen turned unexpectedly. The three of them locked gazes and the criminal fled like a startled gazelle, dodging around con-goers as he scrambled.

Giving chase, Diego plowed his way through a cluster of people. Mabel Pines and two hobbits flew though the air like bowling pins.

Farnsworth veered around a break in the aisle and tried to flank him. A small crowd split aside to make room for him. A convention volunteer pushing a hospitality cart stacked high with ramen noodles stood like a deer in headlights and Farnsworth plowed through and tumbled to his knees, scattering the entire cart-load of contents across the floor.

He scrambled back to his feet and darted forward, crunching noodles underfoot. Sheen caught sight of him and pushed a rack of custom printed t-shirts into his path.

The clumsy detective caught a foot on it and stumbled. His legs tangled on his robed costume and sent him careening through a huge display of Funko Pop! toys. The stack toppled and momentarily pinned him beneath the great pyramid of disproportionate action figures. He howled a Wilhelm scream as he thrashed beneath the mountain of boxes.

Diego rounded a corner and turned away as the criminal snatched up a sword from a prop weapons vendor. He ducked beneath the criminal’s wild, untrained slash and rolled to his side. The detective grabbed a sword and whirled to face Sheen; he slashed for the man who’d murdered his partner.

Sheen blocked the blow with a panicked howl. Diego’s foam sword hit the metal edge of his opponent and collapsed into two pieces.

“Fraggin bastich!” the cosplaying Main Man yelled, whirling back to grab an actual metal weapon. Diego spun back to attack, brandishing a pair of Wolverine claws, but Sheen had already sprinted away as soon as the opportunity arose.

Farnsworth scrambled and thrashed beneath the pile, but something had a hold of his cloak. He yanked it free and knocked over any part of the exhibit that remained intact. He emerged from the chaos with smeared makeup and complete dishevelment. Spotting his partner chasing Sheen from the exhibit hall, he wriggled amid the boxes until he was free and then joined the chase.

Out of breath, but not wanting to fail his partner, Farnsworth hurried through the lobby and charged towards the street level access.
