Then there was a gush of wet warmth and he gasped as the front of his shirt was suddenly drenched with fluid.

He sat up and tore open his shirt. His chest was covered with sticky milk, matting in his chest hair, dripping on to his stomach. He gawped, disbelieving.

Amanda crowed with delight, and reached for him. Bewildered, Roger lifted her clumsily to his right nipple, trying to hold her the way he had seen the midwife show mothers on the maternity ward, the way he had studied from the books on mothering. Amanda took the teat in her mouth and began to suckle.
