Mixing and Matching Assignments

One way to prevent your volunteers from burning out on a boring job is to mix and match assignments. If your main need for a volunteer is to help with routine office work, perhaps you could expand that volunteer’s duties in a way that also utilizes his or her artistic or organizational skills. You might ask them to help make the office more cheerful and inviting by bringing in and arranging fresh flowers from their garden every week. Or you might ask them to keep the bulletin board up-to-date and free from clutter. If they have computer skills, you might assign them the job of designing invitations and fliers for planned events. Maybe you could use them in the office part of the time and out in the community part of the time, placing posters or delivering fliers. Analyze your needs and your volunteers and decide if mixing and matching assignments would work for your organization.
