Buy a seedling tree

Small shovel

Find a place to plant your tree; in your yard, at a local park, or at a nearby school. On baby's birthday—or any special day you choose—go with baby to plant the tree. Once the tree is planted, go back often to water and care for it. Tell baby the tree belongs to her and do the following things together: watch the tree grow and change, measure baby and measure the tree, name the tree, care for the tree, play and sing around baby's tree. Talk about how trees grow, get a picture book from the library so baby can see what the inside of a tree looks like. Take pictures of baby standing next to the tree every six months—have a contest to see who is growing faster—baby or tree.
