This is a clearer shot of the Avro 504k after it has belly-flopped onto a railway line. The fortunes of the Avro Company began to wane under the control of its original owner and in 1920 Crossley Motors acquired most of the shares and wanted the factory space to make more vehicles. Avro moved and just eight years later the business was sold to Armstrong Sidley. Roe resigned and formed another company. Avro, of course, did go on to do great things; it would be this company that would create the Manchester, Lancaster, Lincoln, Shackleton and other iconic aircraft such as the Vulcan. Unbelievably, there is still one Avro 504 that can actually fly, although it is a reproduction and is owned by a museum at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in the United States. In 1971 Blue Swallow Aircraft, based in Virginia, also began making reproduction Avro 504s.
