Write these scriptures on your heart by confessing them. Wisdom is connected to the heart. The heart of the wicked goes after foolishness, but the heart of the righteous seeks wisdom. Wisdom is a heart issue. The measure of wisdom you walk in depends on your heart, on whether or not you are born-again. When you have a new heart—a heart of flesh—you have a heart that has the capacity to receive more wisdom.

Think about this: I know people who have read thousands of books. I’ve read thousands of books. To do this, I had to have a large heart, a large mind. (Sometimes the word heart is also connected to the mind.) The Hebrew word leb means both “heart” and “mind.”3 God had to give me a large mind to read about so many different subjects to teach and preach over these last almost forty years. I’ve studied so many different subjects in Scripture—I’m still studying. I’m still enlarging. I’m still getting more in my heart. I’ve read books on the prophetic, deliverance, healing, prosperity, faith, intercession, dreams, vision, glory, Zion—so many different subjects—books on mercy, compassion, authority, warfare, casting out demons, the Holy Spirit. To deposit that much knowledge, I need a large mind or heart.

Now, if you read one book and said, “Oh, my God, I can’t handle any more,” then evidently your heart is not large. Your mind is not large. Let me say it this way: Don’t be narrow-minded. Don’t be small-minded. Have a big heart.

Having a big heart also means that you have a capacity to operate in love, mercy, and compassion—you love people, and you open your heart to them. God increased Solomon’s capacity in all these areas, and He can do the same for you. God can give you largeness of heart if you ask Him. You can ask Him to give you greater capacity for more revelation, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, because what God can teach you, show you, and impart to you is unlimited.

On this earth there are large bodies of water and small ones. I live in Chicago on what are called the Great Lakes—Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Ontario, and Lake Erie—some of the largest lakes in the world. They’re known for their capacity and for being some of the largest reservoirs of fresh water in America. Then there are the oceans, which are even larger, with their salt water—the Pacific Ocean, the largest ocean, with trillions of gallons of water, as well as the Atlantic, Indian, and Arctic Oceans. These large bodies of water are reservoirs.

Your heart is a reservoir. It is a container. Your heart can contain wisdom, revelation, and knowledge. It can contain love, compassion, mercy, power, insight, and understanding. It can contain songs and books. You can write books and volumes from your heart, depending on its capacity.

It’s interesting that God gave Solomon largeness of heart. It’s as if He was saying, “Listen, Solomon. If you’re going to handle the amount of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding I’m about to deposit in you, I must enlarge your heart.
