1. Leaving a 48" (1.2m) tail, cast on 34 stitches with the contrast color.

2. Knit in garter stitch (knit every row) until the piece measures 2" (5.1cm).

3. Cut the contrast color, leaving a 6" (15.2cm) tail, and tie on the main color.

4. Knit across all the stitches in the main color. This is now the right side of your work.

5. Purl all the stitches in the next row. This is the wrong side of your work (notice how there are bumps on this side—that’s how you know it’s the wrong side).
