“We’re, uh, excited to show you how science can help save the planet,” said Max, who still wished somebody else had been chosen to be the master of ceremonies for this event. “Please follow along behind us in your own boats.”

The press climbed aboard several follow craft as Max and her team boarded their vessel, which had one of the angled turbine engines aiming up at the sky.

Klaus, who hadn’t said anything since the event began, edged his way over to where Max stood on the deck. He tapped the huge turbine.

“This baby run on jet fuel?” he asked.

“Yeah,” said Max.

“Thought so,” smirked Klaus.

Max understood his unspoken meaning. They were about to generate carbon emissions to fight the effects of carbon emissions.

“Good luck, Max,” said Klaus, a little snidely. “You’re going to need it.”
