For a moment I was desperate, like perhaps a Cataglyphis realizing there is no entrance at the end of her long walk home. Think, think. Here is my Cataglyphis-like solution. Pick a large and distinct trunk, visible as far as possible from all angles. Walk around it, memorizing its lower surface. Then continue circling while widening the diameter with each turn. In short, walk a logarithmic spiral, until you inevitably cross the trail. It worked for me; it will for you.
