Chisels

The Chisel is another essential woodworking tool for your wood shop. A finely-sharpened chisel is perfect for cleaning out waste from joints and mortises. Always try to keep one each of ¼”, ½”, ¾” and 1” width bevel-edged chisels within your reach.

There are different types of Chisels that will guide you on which one will be suitable for your project. These include gouges designed to be used with a lathe, as hooks, and with square, round-nose or curved cutting edges. However, for this guide, the most commonly used type of chisel, the bevel-edged chisel. These chisels have a blade that is typically 4 to 7 inches in length, with about a 20-25 degree bevel on three edges, but only on the top side of the chisel, the bottom side of the chisel is flat.
