To make a biscuit joint, follow the guidelines for creating butt edge-to-edge joints described earlier in this chapter, then arrange the boards the way you want them to join. Then follow these steps:
1. With the boards lined up next to each other, make a mark across the joint about 4 inches in from the edge of each board, and another such mark every 6 to 8 inches for the length of the boards (see Figure 10-8).

2. Take your boards apart and set the depth of your biscuit joiner so that the blade cuts into the middle of the edge of the board.
3. Adjust your biscuit joiner for the size biscuit you’re using.
4. Line up the guide mark on the biscuit joiner with the mark you made on each board.
5. Make the cut on all the boards.
