In advance

First, make a multi-stranded hoop with the prepared willow, making it as circular as you can.

Setting up

If using garden wire, cut a number of lengths, around 1 metre long, ready to use; florist’s wire comes on a handy reel so does not need this preparation.

Now gather together your plant material and cut the branches up to make short sprigs, each one about 10–15cm long. Pick off any damaged or discoloured parts. Once you have a nice little heap of mixed sprigs, you are ready to begin.
