Sea turtle walks are conducted in late summer at Bald Head Island, NC, in Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge, GA, in Little Talbot Island State Park, FL, in John D. MacArthur Beach State Park, FL, and at Marine Life Center of Juno Beach, FL. Most of the time you see only loggerheads, although green and leatherback turtles are also possible in Florida. Hawksbill turtles occasionally nest on the Florida Keys. For information about nesting Kemp’s ridleys, contact Padre Island National Seashore, TX. The world’s largest freshwater turtle migration can be seen in May around Reelfoot Lake, TN, which is also a good site to see bald eagles in winter.

Spectacular frog migrations take place on rainy nights on backcountry roads in or near Everglades National Park, FL, in Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, AL, along the access road to White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area, LA, and in Okefenokee Swamp, GA. The latter is also a great location to see “winter” frogs on warm, rainy nights in February and March. A good spot to observe spadefoots after summer monsoon rains is Lordsburg Playas, NM.

Land crab migration can be seen on rainy nights in Mattheson Hammock Park in Coral Gables, FL, and in the northeastern part of Key Largo in the Florida Keys. Horsehair worms are often easy to find in Las Huertas Creek in Bernalillo County, NM.

Diving trips to see spawning coral are organized in late August and early September by a few dive operators in the Florida Keys; they usually go to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.
