Invoking, evoking, or welcoming Deity

This is it! This is the key part of a Wiccan ritual, and this is the only activity that is necessary in order to label a ritual activity “Wiccan.” As Wiccans begin a ritual, they call to Deity to be present or to participate inside the sacred circle. This call may be in the form of a simply worded appeal, a prayer, a poem, a chant, a song, a gesture, a dance, and so on. Traditionally, many Wiccans make the invocation rhyme. Poetic, rhyming language helps to activate the unconscious mind and the deepest Self.

This call is not only a welcome but a celebration of interconnection, of the Divine energy within the soul and the Divinity that infuses all of existence.

When most Wiccans describe this appeal, they say that they are invoking the Divine, and this portion of the ritual usually is called the invocation.
