HAVE YOU EVER TRIED TO CHANGE YOUR HANDWRITING?
WE ALL HAVE DISTINCT HANDWRITING. HAVE you ever tried to forcibly change the way you write? Forcing yourself to make something that is against your own grain is fruitless. This is especially true with creative work. Everyone has a unique approach to the process, including making art. The best results come from being true to your own hand and your own heart.
When you go against your own grain, many things happen, especially negative things. I have seen people try and dislocate from their own inner workings and the results seem to be always the same: dissatisfaction. You may try and delude yourself into thinking that what you want is what someone else has accomplished, but this will never bear fruit. It may seem like you are going in the right direction at first, but soon you will discover a discontent that won’t go away. On the other hand, working within what you have naturally, and honing your own hand, usually brings stunning results. You need to watch what comes out of your hand when you work and pay close attention to your heart and your intuition, the keys to your personal style.
Connecting to your inner self can bring relation to your outer physical self. What inspires your creativity? If you ask any creative people, they can tell you that the object of their inspiration has a root. That root can be anything, such as a love of nature perhaps, or a love of storytelling. That part is personal, yet it still drives the individual to make something interesting. What might be your particular interest that motivates you to create? What inspires you and is true to your desired expression?
For instance, if you have a desire to paint landscapes, then why would you try and paint portraits, especially if you have an aversion to painting the human form? Yet this is how many of us operate. We think we should do something that is hard for us or beyond our reach. Now, the definition of hard can be different for many of us. Hard could be just difficult to figure out but pleasing to actually do, or hard could be just painful. Now, in my estimation painful is not fun but difficulty is a challenge. Working within your own gifts is fun.
Why do you think there are so many different styles and ways of working within the artistic community? It is due to the fact that each artist has his or her own particular vision. It is derived from a pursuit or direction of purpose, and then realized by following that inner directive.
MISTAKES PROVIDE YOU WITH INSIGHTS
We all make mistakes, and in art that is a constant. What differentiates one who utilizes a mistake from one who doesn’t is that he or she can transcend the mistake by inner sense and outer (physical) analysis of the problem.
Imagine you have come to a point in a drawing where you know something is wrong but you can’t pinpoint it precisely.
