What followed was transformational for Yolanda and for me. That day we met in the music room after school. With her permission, we made a videotape of her singing so she could see and hear herself. She was harsh with self-criticism and defeat, but as she accepted my encouragement and suggestions, her confidence swelled. She asked if we could keep having lessons.
