This lesson took me years to learn the hard way and I went through a lot of pain to undo my mistakes, don’t undermine its importance to you.

Chapter 8

I get a lot of questions on routines. People are always asking me what I do in the morning and evening. What these people are typically seeking is some kind of answer that gives them the secret to productivity and getting shit done.

When in reality what you should be doing in a day is a repetition of successful actions that bring you the results you’re looking for.

Let’s say you’re attempting to lose weight, a set of successful actions you might want to take day in and day out until you accomplish your goal are eating less calories than you burn, working out consistently, and recovering. There’s really good odds that with enough time and consistency in those simple actions, that you’ll get the results you’re looking for.

The same logic applies to getting your first clients. The successful actions that you’d want to repeat day in and day out are sending enough video pitches, sending value driven follow up messages to people you already pitched, and taking sales calls with potential clients. If you do those actions consistently until you get the results you’re looking for, you’ll likely get what you want.

The problem is most people aren’t consistent with action through time to see the results come to fruition.

Most things come to us instantly in this world nowadays. You can even get things delivered in major cities now in under 4 hours from the time you ordered online.

Food can show up to your house in under an hour, you refresh your newsfeeds and you get new content on demand, you don’t like one show on Netflix so you can pick between the thousands of other choices in real time and start playing the movie.

Heck even relationships nowadays can happen on demand through apps and dating sites. The point is, most things happen very quickly nowadays, and with little to no effort to get the desired outcome and result.

The problem is that this type of world wires you brain with the wrong expectations, most people just blanket that type of thinking onto everything they do.

So when you need to lose weight, you give up after 2 ½ days because you’re not seeing results in the mirror yet. When you need to get more clients and you have to start pitching people, you’re only willing to invest a few days sending video pitches and after getting a few dozen out you give up because a client hasn’t closed yet.

You tell someone that if they invest $500 monthly for 40 years straight into the stock market and average a 20% return, that they would get $44,798,032.82 they of course love the idea and want the result. But when it comes down to investing the measly $500 each month for 40 years straight, will the person who’s wired for short term real time results follow through? Probably not.
