CONCLUSION

Too many of us do not take the time to team-build. We assume that adults already possess collaborative skills or that they can learn as they go. It is not wise to do without this critical element in team building because, as was stated at the outset of the chapter, as team members engage in these activities, they learn as well. These learning experiences are the foundation upon which future collaborative relationships are built. Once a faculty, for instance, is tainted because of poor interrelationships, it becomes very difficult, if not impossible, to get them back on board toward achieving some common schoolwide goal. Team building is an invaluable opportunity for learning. All educators must learn and grow together. This is an important principle in collaborative leadership.

“The reward of a successful collaboration is a thing that cannot be produced by either of the parties working alone.”

—Harlan Ellison
