Position of the Feet

Archaeological findings and early crucifixion graffiti, gemstones, and artwork show that Jesus’ feet were not placed one on top of the other. However, we don’t have information to determine whether it is more likely that his feet were nailed through each heel bone from inside to outside (to the front of the stipes with knees turned outward), through each heel bone from outside to inside (with the inside of the heels along the outside of the stipes), or through the tops of the feet side by side on the front of the stipes (this one has the least ancient evidence).
