“Mmm, smells good,” Liam said, appearing from behind me in the kitchen and framing himself around my back.

I passed him the fork in my hand and he dug it into the bowl of curried chicken salad I had been working on. He groaned and I twisted around, leaning back against the corner to stare up at him as his eyes shut with the first bite. It seemed like a pretty extreme reaction for chicken salad but I liked the view. And even though he was shining a little with sweat from working in the stuffy bathroom, the scent was more metallic and sharp than the usual heavy stink of a man. Heat was rolling off him like I was standing in front of an open oven door and even though it was hot enough outside I still wanted to lean into it.

“How’s the project?” I asked, and my tongue mimicked his, wetting my bottom lip as I looked up at him.

“All done,” he said. “You wanna a shower?”

He’d probably meant it as a joke but there was something in the tilt of his head toward the hall that made me brought up all my ill-timed fantasies. Brought them right up to the tip of my tongue as if he issued the invitation.

“Together?” I asked, with a hint of a squeak. Liam’s face froze, mouth hanging open, eyes wide. I started back-pedaling as quick as I could. “No- not- you didn’t say- that’s not what I… umm…”

His eyes were crinkling and his cheeks were going round with the suppressed smile. “I mean, if you’re offering, then, hell yes. But if you’re not then I definitely never said anything and please don’t kick me out,” he said, with a waggle of his thick eyebrows.

My brain had turned into a record player that kept skidding over the past few seconds. Liam waited for me to catch up, grabbing another bite of the chicken salad and purring around it as he chewed.

“A shower sounds good,” I said, finally.

Because a shower did sound good. One with Liam sounded better.

I had never been a woman who’d had sex with a lot of different guys, mostly because those opportunities hadn’t come up. Especially not when I’d been with the same guy for so long. But I wasn’t interested in judging anyone and the least I could do was extend that courtesy to myself. I wanted to get naked and soapy with Liam.

“Yeah?” Liam asked, grinning cheerfully.

“Yeah,” I said. And I was about to reassure of him of my sincerity when he tossed the fork onto the counter behind me.

“Great,” he said, and then he scooped me up around my waist and lifted me over his shoulder.

A startled laugh burst out of me and turned quickly into a gasp as scorching hot hands cupped my thighs under the skirt of my sundress. My fingers dug into the damp back of his t-shirt and I squirmed in his hold, trying not to whimper as he tightened his grip on me.
