The Bosnian War began in April 1992, lasted more than three years, and was a conflict between the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia and Montenegro that cost upwards of 100,000 people their lives and displaced more than a million. On 16 September 1996, nine months after a peace agreement was signed, Major Tom O’Sullivan was serving in Bosnia as operations officer of the 4th Battalion, 67th Armor, Camp Colt. As that day was also his son’s seventh birthday, he wrote a letter.
