All objectives, except one, have been assessed through the review of responses to questions posed in the various blog spaces set up by the instructor. After the new material is presented and opportunities for supervised practice provided, the instructor is ready to ascertain whether or not the lesson outcomes have been achieved. In this case, the only objective that hasn't been assessed is comparing and contrasting science and engineering. The instructor chooses to administer the same Venn diagram used to build on what students knew at the beginning to see how their understanding has changed at the conclusion of the activities as shown in Figure 3.10. Since this is the end of the introductory lesson, students and the instructor can compare viewpoints before and after instruction as both an assessment and a meaningful learning exercise.
