PROJECT REPAIR
sweater
We all have sweaters hiding in our closets that are well loved but may have developed wear holes on places like elbows, or perhaps a random little hole from moths. The technique that I chose for this piece is a darning weave, and the great thing about this type of visible mending is that you can use yarn to make a weave within the knit to fill the hole, rather than simply covering it over with a patch. I like that this allows you to be expressive with the yarn that you choose, so that it stands out through colour, pattern, texture and the shape of the mend. So not only are you repairing the sweater for use, but adding a design element as well. No matter what sweater you start with, it will speak of the handmade and be a piece you are proud to wear again.
