Chapter Eight A Woman’s Advice

Lexlie and Remi were talking at the bar waiting for Meghan to return from the ladies room. Remi wanted to ask Lexlie something only a mind reader could answer.

“You see in her mind. Does she like me?”

Lexlie giggled like she does all the time. Remi was glad Meghan never did that. “Yes. I’d say. She never dressed this nice two days in a row for any man.”

“That’s not what I mean. I want to know if she is looking at other men.”

She seemed stumped by the question and sat too long. He feared her answer. After a long blank look she said slowly, “She spent the entire night asking everything under the sun about you, why you wouldn’t dance with her, why you wanted her here, and if you were going to ask her back. I think she has Jeremiah Sutter on the brain. So yes, she is rather focused on you. Not one man has she ever trusted so explicitly as she has you. Yes, I think I may have helped assure her of your awesomeness, but still, she is one of those who gives all she has to offer into the one who gives it to her.”

“But she danced with those other men,” he frowned.

“Then dance with her.”

“I don’t dance.”

“Then find something you do that will interest her.” His eyes lit up rather fast. “Um, except that. You two just met yesterday.”

“What else do I do?”

Lexlie laughed and giggled again. “Well, I know you play video games on that giant television of yours. She is a nut for computer games. You like to go to the park at night to sit and think about your past.”

“She will not like sitting in a dark park and hearing my memories of the nineteen hundreds and its long extinct prairies.”

“Maybe not the way you put it if done that way. But I can think of many times Drake and I just enjoyed each other’s company without having to be somewhere or be doing something. And she is interested in your past. She’s asked me twice now but is afraid to ask you.”

“Why is she afraid of me?” He flipped his head the direction Meghan should be coming back from getting antsy.

“Like most women feel when around you, you don’t open up very well. But she is good for you. You’ve seemed more relaxed for the last twenty-four hours of watching her every move. She gives you purpose, I think.”

“She thinks I should talk to her?” He asked unsure how to go about just idle chitchat. It had never been his forte.

“You could try something new, Remi. Ask about her. She thrives off attention and will tell you anything you ask if given the right invitation. Believe or not, you are good for her too. She hasn’t been so lucky with men. They all betray her trust and yet she still gives all of herself every time. This is the first time I’ve seen her so reluctant to give.
