Adaptability deserves recognition and reward

One way to accelerate change and encourage adaptability is to reward it. People who lead, pave the way, and pass on what they learn to encourage others play a valuable role in a transformation. As with anyone who produces superior value, these people and their acts should be recognized and rewarded. Even if the early adapters make mistakes, the organization benefits if the learnings from these failures make it easier for others to follow and adapt. These are the people who are thinking beyond the fixed patterns and the old ways of thinking.

This goes hand in hand with the change management idea of Emily Lawson and Colin Price that there are four conditions for changing mindsets:

Employees will alter their mind-sets only if they see the point of the change and agree with it—at least enough to give it a try. The surrounding structures (reward and recognition systems, for example) must be in tune with new behavior. Employees must have the skills to do what it requires. Finally, they must see people they respect modelling it actively.
