Chapter 6

Pteranodon Attack!

It was late in the afternoon, and Owen, Blue, Doctor Grant, Sheila, and the ACU guards had been searching the coast in their pontoon boat for hours, looking for any sign of the thief. Doctor Grant also spent much of his time observing Blue’s behavior.

“Fascinating!” he said at last. “Look how quiet she is! Just watching…like she’s sensing everything around her.”

Owen grinned. “True. She’s amazing.”

“She really is,” Sheila added. “This is the kind of thing you don’t learn sitting in a lab getting sandwiches for Doctor Wu.”

“Doctor Wu has you getting sandwiches?” Doctor Grant asked.

“He says it’s for science,” Sheila answered.

“What a waste,” Doctor Grant said.

Then he caught sight of Blue sniffing Sheila and raised an eyebrow at Owen.

“I guess Blue still has your scent from this morning,” Owen laughed.

Sheila chuckled nervously as Doctor Grant nodded and smiled. He couldn’t believe it. There he was, sitting across from a dinosaur—a Velociraptor, no less!—and he was starting to feel at ease.

Turning his attention to the ACU guards, Owen said, “Any sign of our thief yet?”

“Nope,” said one of the guards. “Just monkeys. I love monkeys.”

The guard pointed across the water at a group of monkeys that were rolling rocks back and forth on the sand.

“What are they doing?” Doctor Grant asked.

“Looks like bowling,” one of the ACU guards said.

Everyone laughed, but the laughter was short-lived as Blue quickly became restless, shifting back and forth in the pontoon boat. The craft rocked unsteadily in the water. Owen tried to calm Blue down, but the dinosaur began shrieking at the sky.

“Easy, Blue,” Owen said soothingly as he looked up. “Nothing’s there.”

“Why is she reacting like that?” Doctor Grant asked. He felt a little jittery, too.

“Blue must be sensing something we can’t see yet,” Owen said.

Suddenly, Doctor Grant gazed into the sky over Owen’s head.

“I can!” he exclaimed. “Look!”

Blue let out another shriek as everyone turned their attention to the sky. A huge flock of Pteranodons was rapidly approaching!
