Other Unschooling Families

Lastly, meeting other unschooling families within one’s community served as a path to unschooling (Gray and Riley, 2013), and gave parents the courage to choose to unschool their own children (Fensham-Smith, 2019). It is one thing to read about unschooling in a book, and quite another to talk to parent(s) nearby actually doing it. Lois (2012) notes the importance of these conversations and also of the feelings of relief found in sharing challenges and criticisms that come from making an alternative choice. Within the unschooling community, support is important, and the encouragement of those who have made a similar choice is invaluable.
