Chapter Six

The Nesting Grounds

Much to my amazement we were smack dab in the middle of the Nesting Grounds. This was so cool. We saw mist until we sited the creatures coming closer. There were many different breeds. My favorite was the Apatasaurus. This was a tall animal with a long neck. It also had broad legs and a bit of a bump on its forehead. I went up to it and it seemed very friendly as if it was Allie’s mother. Allie stayed close by.

Jordan and I both looked around totally in awe of our surroundings. There must have been hundreds of nests on the flat land. All of the dinosaurs were aware that we were there but must have sensed that we were of no danger to them. We walked about checking out various nests and taking pictures.

At first I could not figure out how we got to the nesting grounds or how long we had been asleep. Then I remembered being chased by the T-rex’s at the cave. Allie must have brought us here for protection. I could see off in the distance the T-rexes were still lingering around the cave and near the trail we needed to take to get back to the others.

I had known how big a T-rex was by going to the Natural Museum of History in NYC. I had toured there with my grandmother and Uncle Tim. We saw several true scale skeletons. There was, however, no comparison to seeing a live T-Rex this close.

Suddenly, Allie’s mom came running over. It seems as though a small dinosaur was trapped in the lake. It appeared to be stuck in the mud. Allie looked at us as if to say, “help us.”

Jordan mentioned how on earth would we get it out. Then I came up with an idea to make a pulley like the one at our home cave. Jordan and I got to work. I told Allie we needed to get some vines that were near the T-Rex cave. Allie and many of the others headed toward the cave. The T-Rexes were waiting. Jordan shouted to Allie to create a diversion. So the dinosaurs began to walk toward the T-Rexes and trying to scare them away. They would not move! Allie must have come up with a plan because she started running away from the nesting grounds and got the T-Rexes to follow her.

Jordan and I ran over and using the sharp tooth that we had found we managed to cut the vines that we needed. We were so worried about Allie. That was when we noticed that the other dinosaurs were coming to her rescue. We knew she was in good hands.

We got back to the lake and began making the pulley and running the vines through. By this time the dinosaurs that had helped Allie had returned. I said to Jordan, “This adventure really has shown me how much teamwork can accomplish just about anything!”

The other dinosaurs came to help pull the ropes and work the pulley.
