I expect that when you hit that third line, things went sideways. Some readers will likely be able to catch it after a couple of words and finish it out, but many will continue to struggle. This can give you a glimpse into how your CF is working. To take your self-assessment further, reflect on your experience around task switching, and new versus old ideas, and you will get a better sense of your experience with CF.

EXERCISE PRACTICING IMPROVISING

1 First, find a mirror. It can be on a wall, in your hand, or the selfie video function on your phone.

2Make the face of a particular emotion, such as happiness, but name a different emotion. For example, look in the mirror, smile, and say, “I am angry,” or “I am sad.”

You might find that your gears grind at first, but you’ll get better at it. When we cover problem-solving and perspective taking later, you’ll learn even more about how to strengthen your CF.
