The above passage is from Sada's translation of 1592, which completely omits the passage in which Agustín questioned the authenticity of the Roman relic (Agustín 1592b:22). The original text is quite different, even in formulating the question, asking: “why, if the Thirty Pieces had to be shekels and not coins of Rhodes, do they keep one as a relic in Rome with the Title of the Cross?”. Agustín replied in the following way:

A.For the same reason that in the Monastery of Poblet they keep a dice four times the size of those used today and it is of coloured jasper and they say that it is one of those used by Pilate's soldiers to cast lots for Christ's garments; and such things are uncertain, and do not even deserve to be called relics, since they were instruments of sin. Genuine holy relics are those we obtain from the body of saints and their garments.4
