The lycan looked down at the flawless exterior of Jackson’s body, gliding the fingers of his left hand down the immortal’s chest and to his stomach before embracing around him.

“I wish I could hold you,” he said, a tone of angst in his voice, and he glanced up when Jackson caressed from his right shoulder to where the rest of his arm should have been but was no longer.

Jackson kissed the top of his lover’s shoulder, and Caesar couldn’t help a smile that formed on his lips. “When humans become vampires, all of our past wounds are erased when we rise again,” Jackson said. “In my human days, I didn’t have many scars, but I had one right here.” He pointed a single finger to the top of his hairline, and though no blemish remained, he said, “My grandfather essentially threw my brother and I to our deaths when we were sixteen, but I shoved Raeden away and fought to put some distance between us and the danger. I would’ve died for my brother if it meant he’d make it out alive. The scar I got that night is gone now, but I believe the wounds we have, or had, tell stories. And yours show that you’re willing to fight for what you believe in, for your life, no matter the cost of what might be lost.”
