This is the first popular election by majority vote in the history of the “Kingdom of Priests” chosen to propagate the Kingdom of Heaven. (They are faced at the polls again in Matt. 27, and make the same error. In both cases they reject God’s choice for a King. In both cases they wanted to conform to the world system, and in both cases the choice led to national disaster.) The reader must not be misled by the Lord saying, “They have rejected ME, that I should not reign over them.” This statement seems to point to the Kingdom of GOD, instead of the Kingdom of HEAVEN, but it only indicates God’s authority over Israel, corporately, as a nation; for none are “born again” as the “sons of God,” and there is no Kingdom of God present.
Nebuchadnezzar grasps this truth in Daniel 4:34–35. “The most High ruleth in THE KINGDOM OF MEN, and giveth IT to whomsoever he will,” is the wording in Daniel 4:25. This last passage is a direct slap in the face for Darwin (and for every leader anywhere who led a nation anywhere, at anytime, without submitting to the word of the Bible as the final authority), for the passage states clearly that God has control over the political destinies of nations. Rome capitalized on this truth, in A.D. 500, by privately interpreting the New Testament so that she would have this control instead of God.
The very kings, popes, governors, princes, ambassadors, mayors, generals, premiers, dictators, khans, czars, dukes, and emperors who led their countries into wars, received their power by the permissive will of God. (Note how Jesus uses this truth to strike back at Pontius Pilate, when He Himself has already been whipped and is standing before the Roman governor with bound hands! John 19.) Thus, Saul, like Caesar, receives authority on the grounds of God’s permissive will, whether he recognized and submitted to that authority or not. It is highly possible, if not downright certain, that the entire Darwinian system of “evolution from the jungle” (by killing each other) is merely God allowing the Bible rejecters to work it out their own way, firm in their quaint and naive conceit that God simply just couldn’t have written anything about the great matters in which they are engaged!
Enter, Saul I—the “people’s choice!”
As surely as antithesis follows thesis, Lucifer appears to regain the crown. This time his opponent is a “pushover.” In the first place, Saul is a tall man (as the former “sons of God”—1 Sam 10:23, 16:7). In the second place, he is proud of his height, and is proud of any recognition given to it (1 Sam. 15:25, 30). Furthermore, he is ambitious, and desires not only to be a king, but also a priest (1 Sam. 14:33–35, 13:8–14)! Satan takes him as easily as Germany took Austria in 1938. In less than forty-nine years “the people’s choice” is a demon-possessed ego-maniac, attempting to murder the real king whom God was about to set on the throne (1 Sam.
