Tips for Success With Energized Yarns
Run it through the wheel again. As with other singles, if you want more twist in a singles you’ve already finished, you can run it through the wheel again to add twist. Adding twist to an already-spun singles is usually what I do when I want a highly energized yarn. Otherwise, I use my fastest ratio (smallest whorl or pulley) to ensure maximum twist.
Felt your singles before energizing them. If you want the finished garment to be extra durable, try felting your singles before energizing them. There are a lot of steps in making a yarn like this, but the results can be smashing!
Be consistent. When spinning energized singles, it’s especially important to keep the diameter of your singles consistent. Remember that very thin spots in the yarn will greedily suck up twist from neighboring thicker areas. This over twist will produce a weak section, which of course should be avoided, especially if you intend to use the yarn for warp.
