Financial Zen; Get Financial Peace of Mind

Get yourself informed. Talk with friends and family about how they manage their money. Read about personal finances; read books and articles, listen to podcasts, and stay up to date with financial products and services.

Alice Tapper's 2019 book Go Fund Yourself covers five topics: Learn it, Earn it, Start it, Spend it, and Invest it. Alice says that her book covers ‘all the essentials that we should have been taught at school, but weren't; from setting up a system to get you out of debt faster, to simple budgeting hacks. It also investigates the big financial challenges and opportunities we face today, … why spending no longer means owning and how being open about our finances could make us all richer.’

Enlist a financial mentor. Having someone to talk things through and suggest money solutions can be helpful. Ask someone you trust and who has sound financial judgment. It can make financial decisions less daunting, lessen the stress on you, and give you some support.

Get professional help. If your finances are a mess, think about professional help. Meeting with a financial planner can help you find solutions you might not otherwise know about.

If you can't afford a professional advisor, there are plenty of websites and books that can provide advice and ideas. The Money Advice Service www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk (soon to be the Money and Pensions Service moneyandpensionsservice.org.uk) is an organization that provides free and impartial advice on money and financial decisions. Its aim is to help anyone manage their finances as well as their circumstances allow; to provide the information and guidance people need to make effective financial decisions throughout their lives. The Citizens Advice's website – www.citizensadvice.org.uk/debt-and-money/ gives you the information you need to make appropriate financial choices including help to deal with your debt problems, how to avoid losing your home, and how to get your finances back into shape.
