Chapter Nineteen

Dillon

I lean on my elbow and gaze at Ashley. Her face is flush, making her look like she’s run up a flight of stairs, but the smile on her lips is from complete pleasure. God, I love that look.

I trace the curve of her cheek, and her eyelids flutter open. Her eyes are dark and filled with a raw devotion that floors me. My heart bangs in my chest. I love Ashley. My heart swells in my chest. It’s not a phase or good sex. Although the physical connection between us is phenomenal.

I want to be with her. All the time. I want to hear about her day, what she likes and doesn’t like, and what makes her happy. Hell, I even want to eat her shitass food and pretend it’s good.

She reaches out and clutches my bicep. “Is everything okay? You seem serious.”

“Yeah.” I nod. “Everything’s great.” I don’t want to say it when we’re naked and entangled in each other’s arms. That reeks of orgasm afterglow.

The timing must be perfect. It has to be a moment when she can’t question whether it’s real or my emotions are being clouded by hormones.

“Good.” She stretches and arches her body.

Damn. My eyes travel to her perfect breasts, and my fingers itch to claim them again. As much as I shouldn’t still want her, I do. It’s never enough, but we need to eat.

I groan and roll onto my back. “It should be illegal.”

“What should be?” Her voice sounds sleepy as she snuggles into the pillow.

“I still want you when I just had you.”

“Hmm.” She practically purrs as her knee slides along the length of my thigh.

“Damn it. You need to stop.” I grab her leg and hold it in place. “We didn’t eat yet, and I don’t want to force you into a life of being my love slave.” Shit. My heart skips a beat. Will she be upset by my use of the L word? I didn’t exactly say it, but the implication hangs in the air between us.

She sits up and faces me. Her hair fans around her beautiful face like a halo. Her eyes are soft as she smiles at me. “Nothing would make me happier than being your love slave.”

“God, you’re going to kill me.” I pull her down on top of me and press my lips to hers. I claim all she has to give until my head spins. There’s nothing in this world I want more than to marry this amazing woman and have a houseful of kids.

The blaring dinging of my doorbell jerks me out of my Ashley induced haze. Who the hell is that? I fall back and glower at the ceiling. “Maybe if we ignore it, whoever it is, will go away.”

“You aren’t expecting anyone?” She tips her head toward the door of my bedroom and stills.

We both hold our breath and wait for the intruder of our perfect bubble of happiness to disappear. It works until the bell rings again, but this time, it doesn’t stop.
