Chapter 10: The Boss

Jack used all his energy to pull himself up the anchor chain and over the side of the boat. Putting his Oxygen Exchanger back inside his Book Bag, he scurried across the deck to the hole in the floor, then lowered himself down the steps inside. When he got to the bottom, he looked around. No one and nothing but Alfie was there. He rushed over to the cell and put his finger to his mouth.

“Don’t make a noise,” he whispered. “Are you Alfie?” The black-haired boy nodded. “My name is Jack,” he explained. “I’m here to save you.”

But instead of looking relieved, Alfie looked frightened. He was shaking his head violently at Jack. It was as if he were trying to tell him something, but the tape on his mouth was stopping him.
