We took a faith-filled leap into marriage that day. Little did we know that being married would require us to continue taking faith-filled leaps each and every day from that point forward. We once heard someone say that instead of saying, “I do,” we should all say, “I have no clue.” I don’t know about you, but we for sure had no clue that day. No clue about what lay in store in the years to come. No clue that at the very moment we said, “I do,” the Enemy was already plotting how to get us to constantly fight each other so that we’d be too distracted to fight him. And on the flip side, we also had no clue that in spite of our shortcomings and the Enemy’s best efforts to mess things up, God already had wheels in motion to use every situation for our good and for His glory. Twelve years later, we are still in awe of how God successfully manages to redeem, reshape, and restore us in spite of us.

What the world calls “tying the knot” God calls “binding into one flesh.” Danny and I were now two becoming one. We were trading our own ways for a better way. Not an easier way but a better one. A way that would require us to exchange our habit of self-reliance for dependency on God. A way that would hopefully allow our marriage to grow strong and last for a hundred years, just like that mighty oak.

We exchanged vows and rings and danced the night away.

Oh, and when it was all said and done, I couldn’t have cared less about the flowers . . . or lack thereof.
