The next move was hers, Adrian thought, holding Trinity’s gaze.

She was obviously a mass of confusion, saying one thing and meaning another. He knew the feeling. He had walked around the office all day thinking he had gotten carried away last night. Nothing could have been that good. But by the time he’d left the office and gone home, he’d admitted the truth to himself. Of all the lovers he’d ever had, Trinity took the cake. Last night had been simply amazing. The best he’d ever had. For a man who’d had his share of lovers since the age of fifteen, that was saying a lot.

Now, since arriving on her doorstep, she had tried to make him think she hadn’t enjoyed the night as much as he had. He’d listened and now it was time for action. First, he’d help her acknowledge the truth, which meant admitting they had a thing for each other. And it wasn’t going anywhere.

“I don’t need a drink to cool off. I’m not hot.”

So she was still in denial. “You sure?” he asked, holding her gaze intently.

“What I’m sure about, Adrian, is that our little farce has gone too far. We were supposed to only pretend something was going on between us.”

“And what’s wrong with making it the real thing?”

“Plenty. I don’t have time to get involved in a relationship, serious or otherwise. My career is in medicine. It is my life. I told you my goal. I’m leaving here. I don’t do large cities. I want to return to Bunnell and nobody is going to make me change my plans.”

Adrian was thinking she had it all wrong, especially if she assumed he was looking for something permanent. He wasn’t. But then, what was he looking for? A part-time bed partner? An affair that was destined to go nowhere? Both were his usual method of operation so why did those options bother him when it came to her?

“I don’t want to be a booty call for any man, Adrian.”

Now Adrian was confused. She didn’t want an exclusive relationship nor did she want a casual one, either. “Then what do you want, Trinity? You can’t have it both ways.”

She lifted her chin. “Can’t I be satisfied with having neither?”

The answer to that was simple. “No. Because you’re a very hot-blooded woman. You have more passion in your little finger than some women have in their entire bodies. I can say that because I was fortunate enough to tap into all that fire last night. The results were overwhelming. And now that I have tapped into it, for you to go back to your docile life won’t be easy. It’s like a sexual being has been unleashed and once unleashed, there’s no going back.”

He paused, finishing the last of his meal and then pushing the bowl aside. “So what are you going to do about it, Trinity? Are you going to drive yourself crazy and try to ignore the passionate person that you are? Or will you accept who and what you are and enjoy life.
