Here are the steps to create your own EXS instrument from scratch.

• Select a new software instrument track from the Create Track menu at top of the track list. It will default to an EVP88 electric piano.

• Next, click-and-hold on the Input pane in the I/O area, directly above what is labeled Stereo Out on the channel strip to the left.

• Select the EXS from the list of instruments.

• Double-click to open the front panel of the instrument

• A new EXS24 instrument is created automatically, loaded as the preset, and generically named instrument #456, and so on.

• Rename your new EXS instrument in the local Edit menu (Instrument > Save As).

• Here, drag-and-drop any audio file onto the key in the virtual keyboard where you want the sample to be triggered.

• Set the range by dragging left and right.

• You can drag multiple samples at once. A dialog box opens asking how you want the samples to be placed. Experiment with all the options to pick the one appropriate to how you want the samples to be layered.
