PM: We were then able to do our first big production for Nonesuch, which was in fact the biggest production the group has ever done, called The Way Up, which was an extended piece. It took the entire length of the CD, a very involved longform composition written by Lyle Mays and myself. It featured the group of that time. Even in these difficult conditions for record companies, it did very well and we did about a year's worth of touring around it.

Included in this whole arrangement with Nonesuch it happens that right now is when all of the Geffen stuff, starting with Song X, comes back into my control, the license period being over. Nonesuch is now reissuing all of those records; plus the records that I made for Warner Bros. prior to the Nonesuch move will all come out on Nonesuch. So what that means for me is that basically all of my recordings are just in two places, which is the early ECM stuff and then everything after that is all in one spot with Nonesuch. So it's pretty great for me.
