Big Top

Big Top was a New York label best regarded for the presence of Del Shannon, whose prolific run of hits for the label opened in 1961 with the chart-topping “Runaway” (3067) and continued on through “Hats Off to Larry” (3075), “So Long Baby” (3083), “Hey! Little Girl” (3091), and more. His final hit for the label, 1963’s “From Me to You” (3152), marked the first US hit for a Lennon-McCartney composition—apropos of nothing, it was also the first American import single that British DJ legend Bob Harris purchased. Fondly, he still remembers “the pink Big Top label in a white-and-blue sleeve. It looked fabulous.”
